Donate Stock or Securities
All donations are tax-deductible under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (EIN 46-5696645), and receipts are available upon request.
We're now able to accept donations of stocks and other securities! This can be of great benefit to you as you may be exempt from capital gains tax on appreciated securities. Here’s how it works:
You may hold stock that’s risen in value and don't want to sell it primarily because of the substantial capital gains tax due when it’s sold.
As an example, you bought stock for $100 a number of years ago and it is now worth $2,000.
If you sold the $2,000 stock to make a donation to FHKR, you would pay capital gains tax on the $1,900 gain in value.
However, if you donate the stock itself, you avoid paying capital gains tax.
The full fair market value of the stock ($2,000) qualifies for a charitable donation income tax deduction as permitted by law.
When the charity sells the stock, there is no capital gains tax due and the charity receives the full $2,000.
Please email us directly to discuss your donation.
